Why Khazard/Gnome war a thing?

So, this is a significant lapse in my lore knowledge... Why are they at war? The only thing I can figure out is that Khazard is "hunting them to extinction". Is that all that we know, or is there a lorebook somewhere that I need to read?

More than likely a dumb question, so ty for humoring me.

Khazard was gaining foothold in Kandarin, and Glouphrie urged Bolrie, the leader of Tree Gnome Village, to attack Khazard before he became too large a threat. If he did this, Glouphrie claimed, he would surely win the favour of the people and become king in the next election.

The story is told primarily through cutscenes activated from Bolrie's diary, found during the Path of Glouphrie -

I recall one of the mods recently stating somewhere that Khazard wasn't even directly taking part in the fight against the gnomes, so I think part of the reason has to just be "for the hell of it" on his end, because if he had a personal vendetta against them then he'd probably step in and go all crazy-strong-Mahjarrat on them. Mods pls notice me

Just like it was stated earlier the Khazard vs Gnomes war is part of the Gnome questline which is a 5th age storyline. They will probably fight until the the story is finished.
There is joy in combat that can't be found anywhere else.

honestly i would actually be excited for more gnome quests if it did a little character building for khazard etc.

as mahjarrat lore is my favorite and i feel like khazard might be jagexs somewhat chosen successor for zammy for when his death takes place so some character building with him (maybe him and hazeel? as khazard did promise to help him take back land) would be welcomed, though 6th age lore for him would prob be better.

also Akthanakos/Enakhra lore/character building plz ;-; mostly akthan

The gnomes attacked Khazard because Khazard's influence was growing, not because he was making plans to invade them. This is 100% the gnomes' fault, it's like trying to pick a fight with your neighbor because he's been body building.
