Portals aren't source of energy, actually they often require high amount of outside energy to work at all, or are inert passage. Unless they are connected to very energetical plane which leaks power itself through portal.
And while there is strange amount of astral/cosmic/divine/chaotical energy in abyss, prob'ly originating from energetical time/space remains of previous worlds, I don't think that generic abyss portal would make what happens in Daemonheim/Teragard. We can actually store/deposit energy to Abyss, as Xenia did.
It's said that under Demonheim is something so horrible and impassable that it would make player (who is flirting with death and is used to see torture, soul destruction and worst monstrosities and atrocities ever made on daily basis) mad. While Zammy has hideout under this, he doesn't have to go through the horror, he most likely uses a way around it. And this black/red energy in Teragard portal would indicate that's rather evil energy in work there.
I just wonder how Teragard magisters would control such powerful evil. Perhaps they use just a very small fraction of it, possible to control.
Worst that T3 Bandos at peak of his madness could make was Yu'biusk , worst that T4 Zammy + soj could make was wildy. Nomad's thing and Zaro's chthonians/vampires were ugly things too, but player could deal with it. He could even see Mah, which possibly even Amascut couldn't bear. How powerful a god would have to be to make such evil that's supposed to be down there? Either elder gods, or very high power and very mad T2, which I doubt there can be, lest should we know about him already.
Unless, oc, the portal itself is such a god of crazy energy, perhaps the 6th elder one?If Mah could stillborn, maybe he didn't born at all, not able to lay egg before, but being elder god still exist as power, even far more damaged, and thus crazier, than Mah. Yet dunno why his mouthpiece is in Lumby and not Heim, but he could have crawled a bit off site over time...
