Whatever her greatest fear is, whoever the final boss of the event is, we should find out in just over three hours from now.

At reset at midnight tonight, Pestilence arrives. He will obviously bring yet another twist on the event with him, like all the other Riders, however there are only 5 days left of the event to go.

Presumably such a final battle wouldn't take place at a specific date and a specific time, because anyone who's not able to play on that specific day or at that specific time would obviously miss-out. That means we'll probably get a timespan of when the final battle can be done; five days seems about right.

It also seems unlikely we'll get a new mechanic for Pestilence that's only used for less than half a week before the event goes into "final boss mode" and the entire thing changes once more. The logical solution would be that Pestilence's twist is the final boss battle itself, with his ability (and those of the other Riders presumably) being needed to defeat Lucien, or Xau-Tak, or Zamorak, or whoever we think it is.

I have a strong suspicion it's Lucian, but we'll most probably know for sure in the next few hours.

Seems more likely whatever is going to happen will happen at the events conclusion.

I never considered the possibility Lucien coming back from the grave but it could make sense...

My pet theory is that her fear is Zammorak's death. Ol' Zammy has been the closest thing she has to a surrogate father figure. And its been a while since Jagex offed a god (Sliske doesn't count; he was never a deity in the first place). Having Xau Tak kill Zamorak would definitively establish that this Obsidian menace is a threat.

Honestly, the theory of Lucien being her biggest fear makes a lot of sense. One could argue the concept art was used for different content, but the music being a nod to Temple Desecrated (for those that do not know: this is the music that plays during While Guthix Sleeps when you fight off Lucien's summoned infernal demons after touching the Stone of Jas) just seems unlikely to be purely coincidental. The stuff coming out of the portal now could be her fears:
- pus filled zombies
- demons
- giant floating eyeballs that shooting friggin' death rays

This isn't coming out of the portal, but adventurers are throwing bile at her too. Well, not directly at her, but she's definitely in the splash zone. Some of those adventurers have low levels in ranged too, sooooo...
Humility is self-destruction, pride is the destruction of all else. And He said, "
Let there be light.

And then there were none .

You are a servant of chaos. Of change. "Strength thru chaos" is not just a motto, but a lifestyle.

Yet here you are:
You spend a month being tormented constantly be the energies of a portal.
You are unable to do anything to save yourself. You must rely on others. Even then, they can only do so much.
You must watch on as creatures you might have considered 'beneath you' pop out and wreck havoc. Mundane demons and zombies. Large zombies filled with pus. Eyeballs shooting lasers.
Worse is each time they appear, they prolong your suffering as the creatures interrupt those who are supposedly helping you.
The portal beneath you is but the potential beginning of something far worse. Chaos cannot save you nor make you stronger. You are the potential instrument of doom for everything.
Within the portal lies potential rewards and resources, yet you do not get to share in it. Others reap the rewards of your suffering.
In the few cases where they try to aid you, your humiliation is complete by having to endure not only the agony, but the disgusting bile meant to try to stop one of the creatures that comes out.

You may be right Penny. We may be experiencing the collection of Moia's greatest fears first hand.

If the Portal was created by xau tak, who may or may not be an undead elder god, then perhaps it's very possible a resurrected, or some sort of magical imitation of Lucien could be waiting on the other end of the portal.

But if the rumours are true and he has as much HP as everyone says, perhaps this is the same lucien that touched the stone and not a mimic? I imagine his corpse would hold some of the power even after death.

Also I mentioned the idea of an undead Lucien years ago, so I hope it is.

The concept of "the end of the event" could mean the final week of the event, or it could mean after the event is finished. Assuming that such content would be wasted if it's not given ample opportunity to be played by the majority of players, it usually makes more sense for the final week to be "the end of the event" rather than a very short day or two where many people might not even be able to get on.

Nontheless Jagex have gone with the latter approach. I just hope there aren't a ton of people who can't play on Saturday/Sunday (assuming it runs both days) that won't even know this is a thing.

Well Scooby Gang, seems I was wrong and some of you were right.
We pulled the mask off the person behind the spookiness and it really was old man Lucien.

He would have gotten away with it too if it wasn't for us meddling kids.
