We are not the first World Guardian.

In Memorial to Guthix, he memory of the Balance Elemental mentions, Aeternam, a powerful druidess who froze over GWD and a guardian of Guthix.
She is also known as "She who lives outside time. You were with me at this journey's beginning. You have borne the POWER OF THE WORLD GUARDIAN, and have been witness to a future that even I shall not live to see. You have witnessed even the demise of your successor."

Her successor? That's us.

This explains how the elemental knows of our death, She has seen the future post-guthix even BEFORE she was fused into the balance elemental!

It also appears that it is now FULLY confirmed that the player will die. Eventually. And Aeternam will witness it and probably tell Guthix in the past.

One of the things that intrigue me is how long she lived for.

If I'm reading into it right, she has lived ever since the start of first age (since the beginning?) - at a time that Guthix had no guardians chosen yet, and would have not given anyone some of his power to extend their life indefinitely - see the case of his good friends Snix and Snax.

So what has she done to live so long? Could it be related to her seer powers to foretell events so far away in the future?

Kinda disapointing that the WG is destined to fail and die. Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

But what i am a bit confused is why this contradicts TLW, as we travel back in time, tell guthix about his death, say we're the world guardian and go, that is apparently what made him make us a guardian, and this also triggers the Time memory, where Guthix has a meltdown about his eventual death.

But now apparently he has given the 'gift' and title of the World Guardian to another....

I am thinking Aeternam has something to do with Jas due to the living outside time thing.

Perhaps Nomad is our own successor ... or Nomad's final death is what Aeternam saw.

Sliske extracted a portion of the player's soul. (Then even merged with the player char in a way).
Sliske then took the portion of "World guardian" power he took from us and stuck it in Wight Nomad.

So right now, there are 2 World Guardians running around, technically with the same soul.

With convoluted series of events that has occurred since Guthix gave us the World Guardian power, it would be possible for Aeternam's prediction of the demise of the World Guardian to be somewhat vague.

Heck, who's to say that Nomad even gives us a way out to escape death:
1) Nomad allies with the player for some final threat
2) Nomad and the player both know that the situation will end up perma killing 1 of them. they also know that they need the full World Guardian power.
3) So Nomad offers to take on the burden himself (or just takes the power), relieving the player of the burden of the World Guardian mantle
4) Nomad goes off and dies some glorious, yet painful, death against the monstrosity threatening the universe

Nothing says we can't properly Die. But there's no end to the excuses that could see us return.

Wen devours us and eradicates our very being? Oh look, Jas became fond of us and decided to reincarnate us exactly as we were.

That'll be a cracking finale.

We find a generic key that goes back in time, seren hears about it in the past, now she gets the elves to make one for her, so the original key is either never found or now didn't exist, as we now travelled into a present that was not our own. In this one . .. well I think you get the picture. It's a huge spaghetti mess of alternate timelines forming our present. I think it is 3 or 4 timelines I'd say with all the time traveling. It's a blasted mess :P
