Zaros described the items he took with him into this new frontier as something like:

- Protection from that place (most likely the shadow anima he collected)
- A means of navigation (almost certainly Saradomin's crown)
- An offering for the ruler of that place (by process of elimination: Mah's core)

If Zaros intends to give the ruler of Erebus (potentially Xau-Tak) the core then we might be facing a really terrifying enemy coming out of there.

Someone on the RS Discord proposed the theory that Zaros' offering was not the core of Mah, but rather the souls of all his followers that have travelled to Erebus after their death. I think this would be a fascinating twist, and it would explain why he led an empire of followers. Jagex probably won't go this way in their storytelling, but it would be in line with Zaros' character, and a nice twist...

I tend to doubt this as Zaros explained the origins of his Empire - and its fall, his defeat at the hands of Zamork, were not part of his plans. I get the feeling his quest for Elder Godhood was born of that defeat, as otherwise he would have dedicated all the resources of his Empire to finding the Elder Halls and other such preparations, but instead he gave those orders after his return in Fate of the Gods .

"he means to inhale enough Shadow Anima and become some sort of Shadow Elder God while leaving the world to be eaten by the newly hatched Elders."

This seems more likely

We also need to remember there is a sixth elder god that is hinted at and a shadowy god like creature known as Xau-Tak that seems to be capable of future sight.

"(Honesty, I am almost as worried about Xau-Tak as about the rest of the Elder Gods combined as, given the corruption of Mah's egg, he seems to transcend the cycles of the universe. A fact which lends to my concern that he may be our sixth Elder God.)"

From my current understanding, the entire universe is not remade during a Grand Revision, but rather the elder gods consume 100% of the anima on the planet they laid their eggs on (converting it to a lifeless husk) then proceed to create more planets on higher and higher planes. Currently the lowest plane that even gods can access is the previous perfect world, Freneskae. Any further than that is infested with shadow anima to the point it would even kill a god.

With that said, I believe the Grand Revision is the Elder God's counter to the Shadow Realm constantly rising and attempting to consume all of existence

hmmmm....or we try send the Elders into Erebus.
That'd most certainly obliterate them with energy antithetical to their own.
How would we make a portal big enough for that though? Furthermore, what about the Shadow Cacklers? I would assume they're Cthonians, maybe we could use some weakness of demons to hold them back? Duke Orcus was meant to be knocking about in Erebus right? Those are his little offspring.

I don't know how we'd source a portal, but I reckon with enough noise, we could lure the Elders to one.
To keep Shadow Cacklers away, maybe we open it over the River Salve? Whilst technically made to stop Vampyres, it is still Holy water that flows there, Demons shouldn't be big fans of the stuff.
We open the portal over the Salve, Get Saradomin to amp up his blessing there, Shadow Cacklers fall into the Holy water and have a very bad day, Elders get yeeted into the Shadow Dimension.....

Very bad idea, shadow creatures are not the same as demons, they are essentially anti-matter and destroy all normal animal they come in contact with. Add in that there are some colossal threats in there such as Shadow leviathan which are planet sized entities and you will have doomed everyone if one of those get through.

Zaros will become a vessel for Xau-Tak or an agent of the Obsidian Tribunal.

An interesting theory that is sadly not utterly improbable seeing as Xau-Tak corrupted Mah's egg. I doubt Zaros will become a vessel, but him and Xau-Tak crossing swords seems quite likely.

As to the Obsidian Tribunal, they certainly deserve consideration. What else, though, I do not know, seeing as they seem to be in a quasi-alliance with Xau-Tak that defies understanding. However, it is possible that Jagex is saving them for our next set of enemies once the Elders and Xau-Tak are taken care of. They do tend to do that, line up new foes in the shadows who emerge later. Nor is the Tribunal the only one, for we dare not forget the
Queen of Ashes
.

The Book of V : "I can tell a perfect jewel like Gielinor will soon draw the attention of outsiders. That brutal monster, Tuska, will not ignore the prize for long. Nor will the Queen of Ashes waste time recruiting the downtrodden to her infernal cause."
Fallen Nihil
: "My Queen noticed this world appear in the heavens as if it had been revealed from behind a curtain. Last year she felt an increase in fire energy in this location. She had her pyradins spend a year preparing to use that energy. With it, she could bring me through the planes" ... "Many interesting embers have been turning up in this world, and my Queen wishes to analyse their properties. Collect as many burning embers as possible and bring them back to me... My task is to act as scout and herald for my Queen; to seek worlds that are ready for her Enlightenment, and deliver messages between those who are already Enlightened."... "The Queen of Ashes rushes nothing, small one. She is biding her time and will arrive when she feels this world is ready."

I agree. Erebus the realm is a bad area for experimentation and should be used only if all else fails. That said, there is strong potential in using Shadow Anima to slay the Elders, though we must be cautious as that much Shadow Anima might easily poison the whole planet.

For all we know, at this point, Zaros is Xau-Tak

Zaros has seen the World Guardian as having a role/use in his plans.
Xau-Tak seemingly knew of the World Guardian thousands of years before they were born.

The Shadow Realm and time eventually warp Zaros to the point that only Zaros' will to be come an elder god remain (the logic practically destroyed). Yet the ego, or perhaps realization, that he is somehow an Elder God allows him to name himself like his aunts. Or that he thinks he is more, and thus a dual name. whereas those weak and short sighted aunts only have 1 name.
