There's a concept in science that I can't remember the technical name for. But it deals with frequency and how synching certain actions/objects and their frequencies together can cause certain things to happen (such as marching feet synching to the same material frequency as the bridge they march on causing the bridge to collapse in on itself).
Now port that over to a fantasy setting where magical energy and all that stuff is real and has its own rules. Who's to say that 'enlightenment' doesn't come from synching your own anima or soul or whatever with...say...the world's own natural anima or another source of power? The fasting, meditation, and cutting yourself off from society stuff is bound to give someone a sort of bond to the natural world, and those who understand what's going on are bound to get something out of it.
As for the connection with the gods...Seren, Scarabas, and Seiryu all have some isolationist characteristics to a point. It may very well have nothing to do with the actual faiths they preach, but a faith that dictates similar ideals is bound to get similar results.
I believe you're referring to Tesla's Oscillator and the Tectonic Weapon Theory (Tesla claimed his vibrating electro-generator matched the vibrational frequencies of a building nearby and caused it to collapse. This gave his machine its popular nickname,
Tesla's Earthquake Machine
).
As for your theory, I believe it to be
very
valid. On Gielinor, I believe the best path to what the masses would consider "enlightenment," would be to somehow sync your Anima flow to the Anima Mundi itself that flows through Gielinor. Whether this is what happens when the aforementioned religions gain their "enlightenment" I'm not sure, but I suspect your own soul (which is shaped by your experiences) may have something to do with how you show your "enlightenment."
A
I wonder if my Perfect Manji theory could tie into this? The three omnipotent and omnipresent forces of love, nature and fate, a balance of Omote and Ura. Striving to grow stronger and learn, while practising the way of love and mercy.

Now I'm not certain about the Telsa stuff, but the way the bridge thing works is that when a marching band marches they march in synch. This causes sound. Sound on the molecular level is actually movement in matter, and since it works as a wave all matter is moving in the same direction.
Now technically nearly all molecules vibrate, but they vibrate in every which direction, and due to the laws of large numbers they vibrate in such a manner that the movement of said vibrations are equally proportioned, and thus the structure remains stable. When the marching band crosses they would be marching in step, with each marching band member only striking the bridge when all the others do. This means that all the sound waves from all the members compound on each other, and depending on how many members there are there is a greater or lesser amount of molecular movement within the bridge structure due to the sound waves, and all this movement would be in the same direction. If there is too much of this movement, the molecules become displaced, and are no longer proportioned enough to keep a stable structure which then causes the weakened bridge structure to collapse under the weight of the band.
