Maybe Elder Trees suffer from a magically induced aging disease?

There are disorders in humans that make people age far more rapidly than they should. Mentally you're a teenager, but your skin or hair act like you're in your 60s or 70s.

The peculiarity of this species of tree is the same thing.

Even though the tree is technically young, it manage to age itself rapidly to grow (keep in mind that trees grow from sapling to full size in a matter of hours, where in real life, that process takes years).

Or perhaps it takes a page from the Elves.
Time to it is stretched out in a way that it acts like centuries pass for it in a matter of days.
Once it is fully grown, to us, it looks old and aged.

Thank you :-) for actually giving a detailed explained answer, this may be the case and why we were able to figure out we were finally able to grow them too

The news post makes no mention of age. In fact, the only mention of age with respect to the elder trees is their examine:

'This aged tree dominates with its huge presence.'

Lorewise, my guess is that the species of tree was named elder due to its gnarled trunk and branches and the sparseness of its leaves being vaguely similar to an elderly man.

I could of worded it better my bad i meant The post even mentions you wont be possible to grow an Elder Tree.

How is that a lore issue then? At that point, its just a change in development plans, which is common in regularly updating games.

Also, the release post says that 'it's not possible' to grow elder trees, not that it will never be possible.

My Main thing was Its an ELDER Tree how can an elder tree be grown if its obviously by its looks and examination option that its very old.

How can a hornytoad be a lizard if it is obvious by its name and appearance that it is a toad?

Or maybe, it is just a name, and the tree just happens to look like it is old just as the hornytoad looks like a spikey toad?

You know, like how 'weeping' willows are called that because they look like they are bent over crying (despite not actually being able to weep).

Or how electric eels are actually a species of knife fish and are not actually eels.

Or like how flying fish or flying squirrels don't actually fly (they just glide).

Or how Guinea Pigs and Prarie Dogs are both rodents and not pigs or dogs (bonus points: the Guinea Pig comes from Europe, not Guinea).

Oh, here's a good one: the peacock mantis shrimp. It certainly looks quite a bit like a mantis and a shrimp, and it has the colors of a peacock. But don't let that fool you. It is not mantis, peacock, or shrimp.

Can a Mod lock this thread, Threads now just being trolled.

Wait. So now it's trolling to point out situations counter to the rationale you used when deciding that this was an issue?

Look, I'm just pointing out that the simplest answer to your perceived issue is that it is a description of species rather than age.

I would say that it's just another case of gameplay being seperate from lore. If you want wood in-lore, you go chop down a tree, one of the many, many, many trees in Gielinor.
If you want to grow a tree in-lore, that's going to take 80 or so years and your cahracter will be like 'no thanks, there are tons of trees in this world you can't see on your monitor, I'll just cut one of them down'

who cares... gameplay doesn't always = lore, in this case you could also just use that.
i mean, if u want to talk about trees then well... why are there even any left on gelinor when the whole planet has been deforested at least a million times.

I noticed that seeds never die. Unless they're planted and diseased of course. Once a tree is grown there is no removing it unless you're the farmer.
