So, after that deceptively lovely BottleQuest we come to learn, finally, more about one of the most enigmatic characters linked to Morytania and House Drakan, Charos.

We recover his journal that details him having to escape the Great Hunt from Lowerniel himself, Tracing back more of the history of his fabled ring, Escaping Morytania and now wondering what exactly to do with his newfound freedom..

Yes I'm being vague. Read it yourself. :P

But that's why I'm making this thread, because it's the end of that journal that's sparked a revelation, the name Charos had to disappear into whispers, he had to become wholly a new person through means of imagination or stolen identity.

So I present my case.

Charos is still alive, this much we know from Uri after discovering and reactivating the new Amulet of Charos. He is an NPC Ingame we can run up and talk to. He would be coy enough to reveal details of Charos but would never admit to being Charos.

Who do we know that had knowledge of Charos if that name was supposed to die?

Who do we know who acted surprised at the fact we had recovered this ring and made it a point to mention that, if he were alive, he'd most likely come and get it as it would be his, but oh we probably wouldn't have to worry about that?

Who do we know that could activate this personal, sentimental, slightly magical yet unique ring only famously worn by Charos?

My theory Ladies and Gents, is that the Wise Old Man, Dionysius, is Charos.

Thoughts?

My initial guess was Movario. I doubt Dionysius; he's too powerful of a warrior. Charos has never been one to demonstrate any disposition towards combat; he spends most of the time he recorded in his journal running or hiding. Movario also is not disposed towards combat; hence why he has a bodyguard. Charos is pursuing the wishmaker; Movario is the expert on the Stone. His notes from wgs even mention a line about Draken still ruling over Mortytania, as if he was once familiar with a time in which Draken did not. The thing that gives me the most doubts is that Charos was a big tinkerer, and while Movario shows an interest in cave goblin electricity, he doesn't seem to be one for constructing things.

My biggest indicators towards Dionysius rather than anyone else is knowledge only Charos should really have, because of his ring and of course the way he talks, very charming and charismatic, things that made Charos even tolerable to Lowerniel till the hunt.

The Necklace of Charos kind of resembles the outdated necklace model Movario has now, so that could be a slight indicator I suppose? They're both certainly the right age to be him, but I think I'm still sold on Dionysius.

Edit: Reading up, we're also able to successfully use the ring and its powers on Movario, making him susceptible to it, yet Dionysius specifically acts surprised that we didn't try it on him. If that counts for either side. :P

The other candidate could be the mysterious old man... Thematically it would make sense since it seems like a lot of the goals of this quest were to give obscure characters some grounding in the lore. Who better than the mysterious old man.

Charos is a trickster. The Mysterious old man is a trickster.
Charos is old. The mysterious old man is old.
Charos grew up in Draynor. The mysterious old man grew up in Draynor. (In the Wise Old Man's house no less)
Charos is interested in wishmaking magic. The mysterious old man is friends with a wish-fulfilling genie.
Charos carved stuff out of jade. There are two places in Gielinor to get jade: Karamja and the Eastern Lands. The Eastern lands is a more likely source as it is closer. The Mysterious old man has been to the Eastern lands.
Charos constructed a robot clone of himself. The Mysterious old man used to have a maze that featured multiple versions of himself if others were in the maze as well.
Charos was looking for a new identity. The mysterious old man abducts people, maybe he temporarily takes their identity?

The way the necklace restoration miniquest thing ended made me think this would loop back into the gnome quest series. Well, the necklace and related magics at least could- if Uri reached out to some gnomes.

The enchantment they described on that necklace reminded me of the Heist minigame as well. And the way you act in that minigame really matches the way he ran away. Perhaps he's one of- or both- the npcs running that game, just for fun.

The thing that struck me about Charos was he just seemed bored. Genius human thief and master illusionist just kind of bored because no one can really stop him.

Personally, I think Charos is Dr. Fenkenstrain. He checks a bunch of boxes.
- Charos wishes to live forever and Fenk is tinkering with reanimating bodies.
- Fenk knew about the ring. Charos previously gave the ring to a member of Lord Rologarths family.
- The castle inhabited by Lord Rologarth once belonged to Charos. Fenk shows up and kills them all and takes the ring back to hide himself from werewolves and vamps.
- After faking his death, Charos can be anyone he wants and go anywhere he wants. Why not go home and start reclaiming what you lost.
I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.
