Minor spoilers ahead to read at your own risk

So after doing the recent quest where it was strongly implied Raptor and Zemouregal have a history it got me thinking. At first I considered Raptor may be a mahjarrat or one of the other mah tribes...but Jagex also did so much with the children of Mah already, and he doesn't seem to use magic much if at all.

With necromancy coming up my theory is that Raptor is undead. Perhaps the first person Zemouregal resurrected but was unable to properly control. He may also be a victim / subject of the first necromancer who managed to keep his independence and may have been involved with sealing him away - but he seems to have personal animosity toward and knowledge of Zemouregal which is why I am leaning more toward that theory.

Supporting facts that he is undead

- His echoey / raspy voice. Half of which can be attributed to his armor but it sounds a bit more ethereal than just speaking through metal.
- How little is known about him. If he was younger there's a chance that, by now, we'd have met someone who knows his identity.
- His knowledge of undead and Zemouregal
- His combat prowess. Undead are more durable than the living and not being locked to a human's natural life expectancy he could gain more fighting experience than any one man can acquire in a lifetime.
- His reluctance to show his face. Rather than protection and concealing his identity it may be he hides his undead nature and behind the helmet there is the visage of a half-rotted zombie if not a yellowed skull. It could also be something like Al from Full Metal alchemist where the Raptor is just a soul bound to a suit of armor.

Well I was super wrong.

Bit disappointed with the route Jagex took. I suppose it could have been worse, but I think if "he" was an undead it would have been more meaningful.

Honestly I'd have preferred if he was like V from V for Vendetta and never unmasked. Maybe backstory as to who he is but...not every character needs their mask removed.

I dislike the reveal completely. I've played this game for 16 years and not once did I ever get the impression the Raptor was a girl. Either the Raptor is the best actor to ever exist or Jagex literally just threw this into the game.

Are we just going to forget that in the alternate time all the heroes died except the Raptor. His armor hints he escaped alive. Last I remember, Ellamaria was zombified and just bossed around Arav and really didn't do anything.

This 100% seems like a retcon and a terrible one at that. Forget what Jagex says. The Raptor is not freaking Ellamaria, regardless of what they claim now. I mean, just think about it. On what world can she go and slay, do adventuring, and everything else while also being the queen? That doesn't even seem realistic. Where would she even find the time? Not to mention their personalities are completely different from one another. I loved the Raptor the first time I talked with him. I immediately disliked Ellamaria the first time I talked to her.

Plus, Ellamaria doesn't even remotely fit into his armor. Its even more blatant that they forced this change by the recent graphical update they did to try and make him way less bulky. The mods can say they planned this all along, but that is just a straight up lie. If they had, we would have gotten something similar to Mulan when she was dressing up as a dude. You don't make a character with the biggest armor in the freaking game secretly a women half the Raptor's size. Do they really expect me to believe that the queens tiny hands fit into the giant gloved hands the raptor has in numerous art pieces of him that used to be on this website for all to see?

This was clearly just done for some agenda and not to actually stay true to what would have made sense for the character.

Don't forget too that there are voice clips where the voice is clearly masculine. Not androgynous and echoey like Silhouette in Destroy All Humans and other games / movies where a female cloaks her voice with armor. Raptor's audio clips are clearly an older man's voice behind armor.

And as you said, where would she find the time. Raptor is always seen out and about.Does she sleep at all? In Dimension of Disaster we also saw the Raptor's armor displayed as a trophy...a foe that dangerous Zemouregal wouldn't just zombify.

If I read right about which mod said it was their plan all along I'd definitely take his words with a grain of salt. If it it the full truth then it's incredibly sloppy writing and shows a lack of being unable to keep track of their own story.

Honestly I like this take on the Raptor than what we have now. I preferred his unique build and his mysteriousness. He had such a cool look.

Queen Ellamaria could have been a stand alone character with her own adventuerer or whatever

Oh well.

Yeah, Ellamaria could have carried herself as a tragic warrior well enough. Maybe even give her a suit of armor similar to The Raptor's, and she could have been trained by him. Kind of like a Rs version of DC's Slade and Wintergreen with only Ellamaria getting an actual name and face attached to behind the helmet.

Yeah, not the case.
I've now seen the new raptor who looks...puny. Old Raptor at least looked pretty imposing. This one doesn't look intimidating.
I rolled my eyes a lot when the Queen apparently killed 3 dark beasts, each with a single attack and shes apparently some badass former adventurer. 'Murder on the Border' had a lot of dumb things in it though.
Shes been around since like 2005 and not until 2023 did any of this come about. Why the hell did she want us to go get her some flowers, fighting things etc if she likes to go around doing that herself?
Theres no way this was always the plan. Otherwise they wouldn't have made Raptor the size of the Undertaker.
I have to assume that someone decided to take the writing in a new direction or something, and not a good direction. I imagine there was going to be a whole questline about the Raptor, maybe we don't find out who was under there, but stuff about them.
Instead we have queen girlboss the invincible who charmed the king by acting like a man and disappears frequently from the castle which somehow doesn't have everyone in a massive panic and somehow she still manages to thwart lots of assassinations.
