I left similar thoughts in the Poll thread but I feel like this discussion really belongs on this thread. For those who have filled out the survey, you may have been like me, not knowing some of the other user submitted ideas. I had no idea Engineering was on the radar until the last page of the survey and I am now 100% on team Engineering for the new skill. Here's why:

There would be very little new 'content' that would need to be added, just new items, skill tree and maybe a guild / quest or two. The majority of the development would be in designing and considering how the skill would fit into other skills (and there is a LOT of possibilities) without breaking the current skill metas. I also think this skill fits into just about everyone's playstyles as the products made through it could fit into skilling, combat, adventuring, solo or group content.

Skills that could pair for it:
-Mining (ores and gems for raw materials)
-Smithing (Would need those ores to be smithed to bars for Engineering creations)
-Farming + Herbalism (Plants or seeds for oils, glues)
-Combat (Using engineered items such as mines, bombs, flaming arrows)
-Fishing (Engineered poles or nets that could increase catch rate that runs on consumables?)
-Construction (Engineer items to be used in construction in POH)

I think the Engineering skill tree would ultimately funnel into 2 aspects:
-Pieces / Parts (Bronze wire, cogs, plating, wheels etc)
-Products (Gizmos that augment existing skills: birdhouse coocoos to increase rates, fishing pole reels to increase rates, combat items etc.)

(Some of this is copied from my other post so if this is deemed a duplicate post by a mod, please remove whichever is deemed to have less visibility)

Personally, I liked it... Even though I thought some of it would disrupt game balance. They could work on that part later, though. All of the other proposals seemed like extensions to existing skills, or already part of existing skills. Engineering seems like it's the most fleshed out.

I too am starting to like the Engineering idea, I truly cannot wait to see how the rest of the community consultation period goes.

I'm currently a big believer in the ethos of keeping it 'old school', which in my mind means being ambiguous like agility where while it certainly helps if you train it, it's not crucial for most of the games content.

I would create it as a subset of Inscription, as engineering is the design of these products and methods. You would create blueprints or something under it.

Like some of the applications though, I would steer away from combat applications for the moment. It will make for a cleaner skill. I would make consumables follow a logical train of thought when applied, not be a simple currency for creation like, gears. Tin and Copper actually make bronze in 50% weight proportions.

I would really want to see an Engineering skill fit into the lore of the game. Engineering/mechanics are involved in so many quest puzzles it's almost hard to believe it did not naturally become a skill back in 2006/2007.

I heavily agree with the outline of the Engineering Proposal V3 . I think it captures the main goal of Engineering and gives a balanced look at what the rewards could look like. Having the rewards be degradable will help maintain the value of the Engineering skill as well.

My only big change I would like to see to the proposal is factories being locked behind an elaborate puzzle and/or a quest with a big puzzle. These are one-time unlocks so I think it would be pretty fitting. Some of the factories could also be a part of existing quest lines or environments (EW3, Lithkren Vault, Fossil Island Strange Machines, etc..).
