Infernal Harpoon Usage Issue?

While in search for the Big Shark, I noticed that my infernal harpoon has been depleting charges. This wouldn't be out of the ordinary but none of my sharks came back cooked! It seems as though the experience registers but the sharks remained raw while my fish barrel was in my inventory.

Not sure if this is by design but just thought I would share what I noticed before a potential iron used charges.
