Am worried for this new skill, Shamanism was the more obvious choice to pick, was the most grounded and doesn't feel like a mini-game and also brings use to other skills to some degree- everything in line with the principles of all the skills. WTF is sailing dude?? Just teleport question mark

This gets a reaction from me hearing it and seeing the poll results. Am NOT confident in this new skill. 3 of the 4 skills all sound like very nice one-off ideas or potentially a quest/mini-game. I am not happy with Sailing as the pick, please re consider.

I too voted for Shamanism, but the results are the results. Sailing won in popularity by about 5k votes.

Personally, I am mildly skeptical of what could be done with Sailing, but that's also why I'm trying my hardest to contribute to the conversation, to ensure that, despite being the skill I didn't choose, it could still become something I enjoy.

Besides, Jagex already confirmed that Shamanism is going into the backlog for future refinement. So the better sailing turns out, the more likely Jagex will be willing to make another skill. So if we really want Shamanism, we have to ensure Sailing releases in the best form it can so that Jagex feels confident that they aren't wasting their time on skills.

Completely understand your concern and I'm sure you're not the only one. Btw I say this as someone who supports Sailing so far at the high level pitches presented to us.

Do remember these are still high level pitches meaning that a lot of the details you're concerning are yet to be fleshed out so do ensure you're making your voice heard for when the refinement stages approach.

I personally don't see it quite like a minigame because the opportunities for unlocking skilling abilities and PvM encounters as well as just training methods in general have the potential to make it not feel like a minigame.

Although since you do feel like its too minigame-y, what would you prefer Sailing to do in case it does go into game?

I really wasn't the biggest fan of shamanism I thought the concept was cool. Honestly, I wasn't the biggest fan of adding a new skill to osrs it turns into a slippery slope. regardless sailing has the potential to be a useful combo skill to add new training methods for things like crafting fishing and construction also possibly new instanced areas to train other skills or acquire loot.

I think it would be better to voice your opinion on how you'd like sailing to work so you can get the skill to work how you want. with people spite voting now instead of coming up with a solution the game will likely never get a new skill.

Funny that OS adds new skills that RS3 don't have lol!

A large majority of the content added to OSRS isn't in RS3, so it's not surprising. Trust me, I've looked, and I've yet to find Zeah in RS3.
I know, it just feels strange that a game that evolved overtime went back into the past and chose a second path into the future!

cant say I am a fan of sailing, but it could be a good skill, we just do not see it yet. Many people made fun of adding farming to rs2, but it turned out well.

A lot of people did not like what it evolved into the first time. Jagex lost a large percentage of its players with what they did. We did get a good percentage (not that large though) of those that left to come back.

Unfortunately, Jagex did not learn its lesson the first time. Thats why we lost a lot of osrs players.
