First of all. Nex along with this mechanic has understandably been in the game for a while now. However that alone should not be reason to not make changes.
The way
cough
spreading functions right now is much too toxic without it needing to be. It is not a difficult mechanic but in FFA masses it can often times persist through entire kills. However I do not see that as an issue since in larger masses there is less active participation needed for each kill and in this scenario
cough
spreading is actually impactful in its intended meaning of adding difficulty to the boss. The issue lies in the fact that it is way too easy to spread intentionally and to no limit.
I believe that this unnecessary toxicity can be removed either by rewarding players who play the game well, or by punishing the ones who spread
cough
.
A simple way of rewarding players would be to grant a short time limited immunity to getting
cough
again if you have had it and then gotten rid of it. This would allow players who actively ran away to remove the
cough
, to then run back in to continue dealing damage even if there are people with
cough
standing there.
A way to punish players who spread
cough
would be to simply have them take a very minor amount of damage to each player they spread it to. It would only really be impactful if you continously spread
cough
, which is what some players intentionally do each kill.
I believe Jagex can change this mechanic so that it only removes the toxic element of spreading
cough
in perpetuity and without punishment, while also maintaining the current difficulty level of Nex without making it too easy or too difficult. There is no reason to keep mechanics like this as they are in the game if they can be too easily, and evidently too often, abused for griefing purposes.
Hoping for a spoon drop
