So I had an idea for the new skill that would provide a lot of utility depending on how it got developed

If you ever played a game called Diablo 2 You're probably familiar with how the socket system works.

So here we go:

As an idea for the new skill I propose that it should be involved in some sort of creation of weapon and item enchantments that provides specific bonuses that can be changed depending on what sort of content you're engaging in.

For example say in the future you wanted to make a boss which does a ton of frost damage well in order to mitigate that damage you could socket your items with frost resistance runes that reduces the amount of damage you take from frost attacks by 10% per rune attached to your armour. Without these runes you would struggle to survive at this boss.

And then let's say you were done killing this boss and you wanted to go fight a boss whose primary attacks deal fire damage so you go ahead and craft fire resistance runes (which consume your previous runes land place them in your armor in order to fight said boss.

What if you're not into PvM Don't worry I got an idea for that too. Let's say you like to chop trees, and you're looking for some extra benefits from it well you could wear the lumberjack outfit for the 5% XP boost That's cool and all but you could do better. How about we sock at the item with [rune of forestry] which increases the amount of XP you gain by 1% per rune but only can be applied to the lumberjack outfit. What if you're not interested in XP? Maybe you want a 5% chance to get an extra log when you chop a tree? You could socket a rune that does just that.

All right well enough with the cool stuff how would you craft this stuff well you could totally go the invention route on RS3 and break down items into materials this would in turn make skilling profitable again because everything that is cheap today would go up in value because it would be useful for training the new skill.

Oh and I should add I don't like the fact that invention has weird requirements that no other skill does in RS3, I'm not asking for a copy of the skill I think there's some pros and cons to the skill itself in the game for one I don't like the way it trains but that's my opinion

But I think the idea of an invention-like skill in OSRS does have a place as long as it is developed in a way that makes the skill fun to train and be unique but not a complete copy. It also gives the opportunity to have an item sink in the game for all items in the game if you choose to go that route if not you could come up with another way that these items can be obtained and crafted

According to the polls the players want a skill that provide utility this is just one way that can be provided
