It sounds like you may have missed the tick in which the damage was calculated.
I recommend you watch a guide online to see exactly how large these 'tick windows' are.

Just completed the almighty jad today. You have to pray the style that jad is attacking as he begins it. If you're going off the sound of the attack, it will be too late. A great tip I that actually helped me a lot from a tutorial video was to just stand there for a minute or two before even attacking jad and just get the prayer flicks down. It also helps when you get jad to half health and the healers come out, you'll have to deal with the healers while also flicking your prayer. It is challenging but can be completed! You got it!

I'm assuming your internet connection is serving you well, sometimes a bit too much ping could be a literal life or death moment.

Anyway I agree that going off purely sounds can sometimes not give you enough time to react and its worth practicing visually until you get the hang of it.

Once you get to the healers, simply just do one action at a time. Pray, look at jad, pray, look at jad, tag healer, look at jad etc etc.
