Jagex,

You ran the most important poll ever for less than a week? Over half the people who log in to this game and care about it just as much as everyone else who plays it every day- and pay just as much as they do- probably didn't have the opportunity to vote on this poll.

I play the game basically every day and I missed the poll myself.

I have friends who log in once a month. You don't think they're worth giving a vote on the most important update in OSRS history? The vast majority of players still log in for the nostalgia aspect of this game. And you need to seriously consider how carefully you are valuing the votes from players who rarely log in but just as much as anyone else- keep the lights on.

I'm baffled.

You need to rerun this poll and you need to rerun it over the course of a full month or you are making a huge mistake with the Sailing Skill.

And as for me, this skill should not have passed. 80% should have been required to lock-in this meme forever. I personally was unable to contribute my no vote to the poll, which wouldn't have changed the results.

I'm not opposed to sailing but it needs more work.

Rerun the poll and keep it open long enough for it to matter. Thanks.

I don't know if this "Summer Summit Gigapoll" was the shortest ever such polls in OSRS history, but 5 days instead of the normal 7 or more days polling period was certainly the shortest in recent years.

IIRC, OSRS did tell us the duration of the voting period 5 days ago though, so whatever complaints now would be too late.

Anyway, congratulations to Sailing passing the poll, beating the re-re-revised 70% threshold by less than 2%.

I doubt it would be repolled, however, the low approval rates of this poll and prevailing polls and opinions suggested there a significant percentage of the OSRS players (or at least the ones who voted) are not thrilled with Sailing. Maybe we will see further refinements, maybe not, but this new "skill" doesn't bother me whichever way as I will only be playing it like a Temple Trekking minigame whenever it is released.

The number of people that have said they want NO new skills is actually very low, some where around 4%. Many people have voted no to other skills because of various reasons, but do want a new skill.

Enjoy exploring Gielinor’s seas LMAO it passed the poll and it’s coming.

Tbh OP, you’re whining about a game that’s long been ruined. I’ve been preaching and preaching and trying to prevent change in the forums for YEARS since the game launched, yet every time there always was a way to screw up OS further: Be it NMZ, D claws, GE, raids, etc. Not to mention every classic NPC model being reworked and made un-oldschool. The game was already ruined dude. Too little, too late. Enjoy Sailing. Perhaps it won’t be the worst thing?

I don't think I'm whining about the actual game.

Look as far as what passes and what does not pass I usually don't have much of an opinion. Generally speaking I trust the devs to get it right. But I literally logged in every day this week, but was busting my rear at work.

FINALLY I was able to relax on Friday to read up on some OSRS news posts and low and behold the poll had both opened and closed. I can't be the only one who was bank-standing all week and somehow missed the poll. Maybe light up the poll booth a bright color or something when polls are open so this doesn't happen to active players- let alone the players who log in on a longer cadence as I said in the OP.

It just feels like to me they are hustling for the highest probability of yes. I even took a look at the poll and it looks like the poll was buried inside of another poll and the name of the poll didn't even mention that it was the lock-in for sailing.

It just tells me the devs didn't feel good about it passing either if they just did it in the most forthcoming and fair way possible. Pretty unfortunate, even if the sailing skill is good. Is this really what the players want?

I didn't vote for this poll, as I (1) don't care about the new "skill" and (2) don't think the result means anything significant one way or the other.

I don't like this new "skill" as it is absolutely a minigame much like Temple Trekking. We have 3 different tiers of ships in Sailing just like we have 3 different tiers of NPCs we have to escort. Major progression of Sailing is to improve the ship which we can't even take and use ashore just like major progression is on the NPCs in temple trekking and we can't use them anywhere outside the minigame. We have various random events that we can gain items or skill xp in both Sailing and Temple Trekking. Both Sailing and Temple Trekking provide us new ways to travel to new places.

The big problem with Sailing being a "skill" is undoubtedly it will lock some major content behind xp and levels. I think this is going to be a major turnoff to players who hate the grind and/or alreeady maxed. However, I have no intention to grind my life off in OSRS skills even before Sailing so this doesn't bother me much.

Let's look at the hyppeeee of this new "skill"...

When the new "skill" was announced and initially polled after Winter Summit 2022, 191172 players participated in the voting - New Skill (10-Dec-2022 21:23:42)

When the next Skill Pitches Poll (04-Apr-2023 11:00:04) came out, we were down to 178951 voters.

Now, when Sailing was finally polled and embedded in the grand 2023 Summer Summit Gigapoll, only 161381 voters participated and only 157129 voiced their opinions on Sailing.

OSRS players do want changes, but most don't care about new skill or "Sailing", so by the time when "Sailing" is released, all the hypppeeee will be non-existent and it may not be worthy to even question the legitimacy of this poll.

Buddy, they've been manipulating the poll results since somewhere around Wardings non-release. It's blatant if you're paying attention.

Shoving sailing into the middle of the questions, with a shortened voting time, is more than enough proof to me that the Carlyle Group absolutely does not give a shit about the long term health of this game.

I get Jagex is pissed when projects they've been working on get shot down and they lose that dev time, but my God, now we're going to lose dev time for years to an expanded Fishing Trawler + DS1 sailing cinematic.
