Its too bad we can have a way of trading items to an npc for something of the same grouping. Say, if something has so many points for an item and you need two of one item to get another, that could often be beneficial.

RNG and I have a love/hate relationship. There are days I get back to back to back drops that turn me into a giddy schoolgirl then there's days it makes me question my sanity. But honestly, I like that it's hit or miss. I like just minding my own business when all of a sudden I receive a drop that allows me to upgrade my gear and fill a collection slot. I love it all, even the dry streak because that to me just means I'm due for a different drop from another activity. Just keep at it, the next kc could be the one that gives you exactly what you wanted.
