They cannot log in with the old method anymore, which means cant use HDOS, because they've migrated to a Jagex Account. Their old login was wiped and can only use the launcher now (or mobile).
From the newsposts announcing Jagex accounts to everyone back in April:
"While HDOS is an approved client, it is not available on the Jagex Launcher at this time. We aren't ruling it out at this stage, but please bear in mind that you won't be able to use HDOS immediately after upgrading to a Jagex Account."
Runelite took a couple months before it was integrated into the launcher last year, so not unexpected. They probably need to make sure the client can work with the launcher and handle the authentication handoff correctly and securely. Though being unofficial, probably not going to get priority right now getting the Jagex Account system pushed out to everyone.
Just need to wait a bit. At least the game is still accessible in some way.
