Eventually is Jagex going to make it a requirement to log in and play OSRS only using the Jagex Launcher?

or

Will I be able to continue playing OSRS while using the official OSRS client that I downloaded from the homepage?

Yes, eventually Jagex will require all players to migrate to a Jagex Account to play RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, and you will need to use the Jagex Launcher when that happens.

They have not yet provided a date for when that transition will happen, though the Jagex Launcher now requires a Jagex Account for new logins as of early this month, and it is likely that other functions will require a Jagex Account soon too.

The Jagex Launcher will run the client you've downloaded already, it just changes how you log into it.
