Hello

I have been playing OSRS almost since the year of release and have only had one mute for three days as my only offense apart from this. I was using a VPN to manage torrents a month back while playing ingame then got hit by a 24 or 48 hour Macroing ban. It took me a full two days of research to find out why exactly I was banned and I received an automatic response for the evidence as well as a denial for my appeal against the offense, with again, no reason. I understand now that VPNs fall under the category of third party apps which are considered against the rules. However Jagex hesitates to publicize this because in my opinion, like banning people for name hoarding and selling, it is not a popular policy so they don't explicitly state it in log in screen reminders or anywhere else easy to find. I understand there a page with a list of banned third party apps however I have never cheated in OSRS so I felt no need to consult this page. I am now one black mark away from a perm ban on an account that has thousands of hours on it . Please do not troll me with responses that there should be no problem if I stick to the rules. I want constructive responses as to if there is any chance to get this black mark removed via the forums or twitter. I have taken the OSRS rules very seriously and quiet frankly if you don't want people not to use VPNs because it makes it hard to discern the true owner of an account which sucks up Jagex's resources so it's simpler to ban everyone who uses a VPN, you should just be straight up and front about this rule and the reasons for it. This was extremely underhanded. The only reason I didn't even know about this rule is because you deliberately keep talk about rules like this underground due to the negative image it creates for the company. Please let me know if I can appeal against the offense again because I want this black mark removed. Please also let me appeal against the offense if the rules change.

so what research did you do to find this out? if its not known etc. how did you find out its to do with vpn?

to my knowledge vpns wont trigger ban for macro, as it doesnt effect game play, macros beign against the rules are down to having advantage on playing over others. (aka the macro doing the work for you)
vpsn would not do this.

so im curious on what research you did.

Unfortunately, players have indeed been banned for using VPNs that are consistent with rule-breakers; however, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will be banned for using one, though . Malua has always said that VPN use is not recommended for playing RuneScape given the fact that it will taint the history of the account and its use when it comes to account recovery purposes. If you consistently utilize a VPN to play RuneScape, then it's very difficult for Jagex to keep a digital record of it, something that it's extremely important when you are trying to prove account ownership and recover an account.

You are also vulnerable to receiving a ban if you employ the use of a dodgy VPN.

Once again to the first two posts on this thread, I am not going to waste my time with people who don't know what they're talking about. There has been moderators who have confirmed this both on the forums and reddit, they just don't like to talk about it. Thanks for mentioning this Mrs Ana. I am mainly looking for a constructive solution to my problem of the black mark as I have uninstalled the vpn.

If you have already appealed and a decision was made, then, that decision is final -- either an approval or denial of such appeal. If you have uninstalled the VPN that you are referring to, then I assume that you don't have anything else to worry about.

There is no "constructive solution" to your problem other than what you have already carried out.

To stay on topic though. You won't or should not as I said get a ban for using a VPN. Many people use them and again had no issues.

You triggered something and now you have removed it I would say you have or should have no further issues.
