Copyright law protects an expression of an idea and a concept, not the idea and concept itself. The keyblade is not protected by copyright law just as the chain and sickle is not protected by copyright law. If ideas and concepts were protected by copyright, we would not be able to have many of the things we currently have in game. As long as Jagex’s designs are not substantially similar to Square Enix’s, there is no potential for infringement. They could design a keyblade after the cherry blossom tree, and it could leave a trail of cherry blossoms as the player runs. I was thinking. Perhaps if the war fans I mentioned earlier were large, they would be able to support more detailed designs. Think Daqiao and Xiaoqiao from the Dynasty Warriors games. But smaller war fans would also be cool.
