Pendants of skill are far better for the game than xp lamps.
At least people have to work at and earn normal xp to get the bonus xp. This is much better than just giving away xp for no effort.
Personally, I do not like Jagex continually making the game easier and easier to advance up in the game. If something is difficult to achieve then it is more valued and gives a better sense of achievement once it has been achieved. They may get a higher level of new members and retain some for a longer period, but their churn rate will also go up and people will be moving on to other games at a much higher rate.
Their summer offer of buying/retaining membership for 2 months and giving 1,000,000 xp for no effort is just crazy. This would allow someone with a skill on level 1 to advance straight to level 73.
This sort of give away should be scaled to the current level of whichever skills it is used on. For someone maxed out on all skills, one million is a nice boost towards 200 million xp per skill, but at lower levels it is too much over the top.
Over 400 discontinued items have been issued. Most of them are rarer than a Santa Hat.
Daily trading volumes now give a good indication of true rarity.
