Pretty happy with all suggested updates only one issue.
Choose your fate?
Obviously you haven't explained what this is, my educated guess tells me we get to pick one of the four weapons and that's that. While this is a good idea is other mmo games a sort of specification of what your character type is i don't think its right for runescape. There is no specification in runescape you can level mage range and melee without any of them becoming effected through other choices.
To only be able to choose one of these "powerful items" obviously this sounds like weapons it may not be but it certainly sounds like you'd be picking a certain combat style which is wrong for the type of game it takes years to level an account if you could make 3 accounts easily with mage range melee styles that'd be fine because it wouldn't take long if you wanted to switch. There no chance to switch because its a one time offer but i just don't like the fact you can only pick one.
While runescape has the combat triangle it seems annoying and a little stupid that we can only pick one "powerful item"
As i said before though you haven't explained much i just hope it doesn't effect combat much.

I'm really worried about this. I'm also kind of hopeful. I feel like Jagex is being pulled in two different directions right now; one that's micro-transaction-centric and one that's a lot more community focussed. New management means new ideas, yes, but if this kind of thing flops then I think they'll focus a lot more on the community aspects. We've seen bits of this, what with RuneShark being featured on the front page and being invited to Jagex HQ to see some of what they're working on. They've also just sent out a survey today asking for people's ideas on how to improve Runescape.
I suspect that this will be pretty bad for Runescape in the short-term, but with any luck it won't leave it irreparably broken. Then maybe they can try and take it in a direction that's more in-line with what we, the community, really want.

@capricious
for the record i spent my first 18months of rs life in f2p.. did a few 99's and had a jolly good time there. i have total repect for f2p pures; for thier community spriit and thier achievements in leveling the hard way.. i don't fully endorse every update the games' designers come up with and i'm dubious about the long term effects of these micro transactions, not just for the game itself but for its loyal player base. its true that f2p has been hit hard in the last 12 months with the removal of h/s and a massive reduction in worlds (my own home world 105 became a member world and for me bit the dust) but there have been improvements to f2p..
runespan for one has made rc far more accesible. the graphical updates were rolled out first in f2p areas. the changes to fm (bonfires) are f2p too and all the interface changes roll out accross the rs worlds.
furthermore.. yes jagex wants f2pers to pay members.. and it dangles carrots to do so.. but don't think that every player wants to stay f2p forever.
respectfully,
moskoe.
