By intuition only, I feel like if this gentleman is purchasing jagex, it would be out of his personal funds.
I just can't make heads or tails of why a mining company would randomly purchase a gaming company. Particularly when I can't find anything that indicates the mining company is an investment company.
The chairman of the board for the Shandong Hongda Mining Co, Duan Lianwen, is also the Executive Director of an investment company.

Hahaha nice one jagex
, but today is 15th March, not 1st April XD XD......
You almost got me ;P
the wisdom of my words, come from my own balanced mind.
Do not trust on your own tricky mind. Just... make it useful.
Then it makes sense for the investment company to purchase jagex. Lots of executives have interests in investment companies.
I can't access the financial times article which is the source for the reuters article.
And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

Only time will tell.
Everyone. Stop doomsaying please, it's not helping the situation.
People have every reason for doomsaying.
The Asians have a long history of turning western MMO's into pay-2-win grindfests.
And frankly, Investment companies is always a "bad" thing for the gaming industry, as all games developed by companies owned by investors ultimately suffer horribly in quality.

If the offer goes through, does the Chinese company get access to my past credit information and other private details. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that.
Also a first thought is would this mean an increase in gold farmers and RWT?
Hi.
Saw this coming. The community is getting older, worlds are less than 500 people. Jagex has been rage trying to sell bonds/ promos. If I were Jagex, i'd for sure cash out asap.

"Shandong Hongda’s Liang Xiuhong and other shareholders have borrowed heavily in the domestic shadow banking sector, pledging the company*s shares against wealth management products on at least three occasions, according to documents seen by the Financial Times."

Firstly, it's potential acquisition, there's no need for us "panic" now - even if Financial Times state that the agreement has been signed, there's nothing wrong with that. Jagex states that there are no
binding
agreements signed. SPA may indicate an intent to excise a transaction on such and such terms if a, b and c conditions are satisfied and all parties agree, etc. etc. So.. what are you all shouting about
?
Secondly, it's an
acquisition
, not a merger. Poorly illustrated example: statement 1: you have a cat. statement 2: you buy a dog. Result - neither your dog becomes a cat, nor your cat becomes a dog. Dog remains to be a dog and cat remains to be a cat.
In our case - so what, if the ownership of the shares will be transferred to the company which core business is mining activities? There is nothing wrong with that, and, it does not mean that they will interfere with micro-management of Jagex and it's products. And what is more, most of you all look at the acquisition as a destructive action. It is very unlikely if there will be any major changes which we would experience - when you buy something new, doubt if the first thing you do with your new object is its destruction.
Moreover, you see the word "mining" and majority of you lose your mind
The company can have a lot to do with R&D, including IT. Also, it seems that you picture very simplified process of their activity in something similar to this "all their employees from workers to highest level managers gather to the mining site, mine some iron and go home". It's definitely not like that
