I am extremely unhappy about this.
I have been playing Runescape on and off for an entire decade. I have paid for membership on several occasions. I don't have the time I used to have, because college has gotten in the way--but that doesn't mean I appreciate my name being taken from me. While I understand the need for a cleanup,
you need to look deeper than whether or not a user hasn't logged in in a while
. Look instead for patterns in which people have left for year or so, come back, left, come back, on and off, ESPECIALLY if they are long-time players of the game. As a customer I feel unappreciated and kicked to the curb.
I log in after a long time, after
finally
getting a bit of a break, just to relax and play a game that I've always loved, and I'm greeted by a message, "Sorry, your username is no longer available." As a customer who has paid for membership in the past, I am extremely unsatisfied. This is NOT how you treat long-time customers. I would have paid for membership this time around, as I was wanting to get back into training up some of my members-only skills, particularly Fletching. Now, that's not happening. I won't pay money to play under a chopped down version of my name.
You can tell me "get over it" all you want, but my name means everything to me. I created it. I didn't go look it up in a dictionary or book, or translate it from some foreign language. I put the sounds together myself and came up with a name that I felt proud to use everywhere I went. It is extremely unfair that because I've been bombarded by college and preparing for my internships and career that I've had this taken away from me.
The site has changed a lot, and I can't figure out where to send a legitimate complaint or contact someone--a
real
person, not a robot who sends automatic replies--who can help me sort this out. If anyone can point me in the right direction, please do so as I would greatly appreciate it.
