750K is a pipedream
They knew that was unlikely because they have alienated old school players so much these last few years that they have quit the game and many, like me do not trust a company that treats it's customers so poorly.
This is not really a fair offer, this is just the latest bum's rush they are forcing on the community. It is being portrayed as they as compromising and offering the old game. It is a half-hearted offer. The excuse that the only viable starting point was August 2007 is laughable.
I stated in a post over a month ago that they would eventually offer the old games to a member's only account, but I had been too generous in my expectations. They will probably only offer a shell of a game. Many have posted that they cannot play the game due to faulty downloads or connecting to the server. Typical Jagex service.
The reality is this was probably just another Jagex scam to get some people to pay 8 to 10 dollars for a months worth of membership just to vote. Short term profits, most companies that resort to such tactics do not last long. People get tired of being treated poorly.
There is certainly more player activity in the last week than there has been in months. That coupled with the "denied, but obvious loss members after the introduction of EOC" indicates that they are on the wrong track and they need to do something to recover. I am not sure that they have the "grey matter" to figure out the obvious solution - dump EOC. The claim that there are 8 million active accounts is pure unadulterated BS! There are probably 8 million accounts, but they are not members, at best there are 1.8 million members and many of the are bots. I am not confident that the 1.8 M are all genuine, but they show in HISCORES. Over 300,000 members quit in the month of November that were above 1200 skill points. That does not capture those players that quit that were below 1200 skill points. My conservative guess is that EOC cost Jagex at least 500,000 memberships.
