By making it 12 months membership = Instant beta access you're not guaranteeing yourself quality beta testing, assuming your aim is to get feedback and to fix any predominant issues, the player base which is <12 months members may not be in any way a cross section of the Runescape community; usually in these kinds of beta testing situations you use a cross section of your community or the whole community and not a select group.
The reasoning behind why <12 months, I believe is to be truly monetary. It's basically a big slap in the face for anyone who lets their membership run out and rejoin, in a way saying that if you want any kind of privileges, even though I've probably had more membership months than a lot of people on here, you have to send us monthly cash even when you're not/can't play.
On a personal level I find it disgusting that in every update there is some kind of grab for cash, and it seems Jagex; You've done it again.

this sounds exciting. but i do have a few questions. would we need to go to Jagex HQ or to test the beta or do we do it from home? will this involve the funny green suit thing to test it? anyways, sounds very exciting. from the video, it looks like fun and can't wait for the release of it.

Even if you don't have automatic access, we will still be inviting 50,000 other members to take part. So make sure you are an active player and you should stand a good chance.

You'll be able to test the game from your own home, there is no need to come here to do it. Getting hundreds of thousands of players into the office to test it would be a logistical nightmare.
If you want to make your own JagMotion outfit and test it then you are more than welcome, just make sure you send us a picture. ;)

I don't think Jagex is able to accommodate 500K+ players in an office sadly. ;)
You'll be able to log in directly from home onto the beta servers, just as you do with the current game, so long as you have beta access.
