During WW1, the U.S. Government tried to rename hamburgers as "liberty sandwiches" to promote patriotism.

If I remember correctly, it's because hamburgers are associated with Germany's city of Hamburg, and sirloin steaks were invented as an American alternative during this time.

The qwerty keyboard layout was designed to make people type slower. This is so they would pay more attention to what letters they were pressing and make fewer typing mistakes, something that was a much bigger deal on a typewriter.

In 1863, Venezuela became the first modern country to abolish the death penalty for all crimes.

Unfortunately, Venezuela sucks now. Not saying they reinstated the death penalty, maybe they did, I dunno. I just know it sucks ;)

Godzilla is commonly depicted as green in pop culture, but he is actually dark grey in almost all of his movies. He is, however, green in two of them, as well as in a 1980's animated tv show. The only other color he's ever been is brown, for his first two movies, but those were in black and white, so he appeared dark grey .

"Really John, you had to check the release date of a movie that came out last year? " Yes. While it came out at the very end of 2018 in Japan, it wasn't available to watch in the US until this year, so I wasn't sure if it was a 2019 movie or not.
