One of the assassins of Archduke Franz Ferdinand threw a grenade but missed the car. He swallowed cyanide and jumped to the River Miljacka. The cyanide was expired and did not work, and the river was only 10cm deep. He was captured seconds later.
The blue whale can produce the loudest sound of any animal. At 188 decibels, the noise can be detected over 800 km (500 mi) away.
While sound works differently in water, and these noises are too low to be detectable by the human ear, its worth noting that in the air, 188db is so loud that it could kill you just from the air pressure.
