The Thorny Devil is a small Australian lizard that has many different names, including the thorny devil, the mountain devil, thorny lizard, moloch and thorny dragon. The thorny devil typically inhabits the arid scrub land and desert that covers the majority of central Australia.

The top of their body is covered in spikes and scales, which help it defend from predators. It also has a spiny ‘false head’ on the back of its neck, which it presents to predators while hiding its real head.

Potoos are neotropical birds of the family Nyctibiidae. There are 7 species of potoos and all of them are famous for their incredible camouflage skills.


They are often seen in memes due to their slightly goofy-come-creepy looks, with enormous googly yellow eyes, as well as their amusing name (often mistakenly spelt ‘pooto‘).

the Pink Fairy Armadillo, or ‘pichiciego’ – is a desert-adapted mammal with a ‘pink’ bony armor shell, that is native to central Argentina. It inhabits sandy plains, scrubby grasslands, dunes and spends much of its time underground.

It’s the tinniest species of armadillo in the world and uses its surroundings not just for habitation, but to hide from many different threats. They are elusive and rarely ever seen by humans, and among the least known and studied armadillo species.

the Axolotl is a neotenic salamander and is considered to be one of the world’s most unusual and unique species of salamanders.


The ‘Mexican Walking Fish’ as it is commonly referred to, isn’t actually a fish – it’s an amphibian. Axolotl can be found in Mexico in freshwater lakes and ponds.
