Background:
My ISP decided to tactically nuke my account during NM Zuk and caused me to lag out during Wave 15 before the first minion and kindly reconnect me just in time to see my account die to the triple Jads during wave 16 the other day. Needless to say I was upset.
Rant:
In addition to losing a life to something that was completely out of my control, I lost a variety of items that took over 50 - 100 hours of game time to obtain as if I were doing PvP. I find that this is stupidly punishing compared to other game modes. Mainscape - allows for reclaimable items and had a debatably death cost rework to make deaths less punishing. Normal Ironscape - same situation as Mainscape. Even the Wilderness has been made "safe" content unless you do a select few activities. Dying in these modes is so inconsequential that it's joke.
Why is that HCIM have to get placed back so many hours due to something that is often out of their control? Isn't losing a life on an account that people spend hundreds or even thousands of hours on enough of a punishment for a client crash, lag, or disconnect?
On top of this,
the HCIM doesn't even get to pick what they keep...
I feel like this is a stupid outdated feature that no longer fits the game or game mode. A large reason a ton of people quit PvP is due to the huge time sink of bossing and hoping to get some BiS items that can literally take 50 to 100 hours on average. For example, one of the items lost was a Scripture of Ful which has a 1/100 drop rate at Zuk. From my kill times, getting another 100 kills would take 50 hours of game time and its not even guaranteed that I would get another. On top this, I have to risk my character's life to regain the item.
I don't believe I am on my own in this opinion in the HCIM community, and I've even heard of players quitting the game mode over this very reason.
