The explanation for the tax in Runescape News claims it's to offset lowering the death costs.
thats doesnt answer my question, so lets try again.

if the death cost reduction and the ge tax came out at different times. would you still think it was "unfair"?

The tax is 100% about death costs. There have been like 4 posts on the home page describing that in great detail.
TBH they probably would have done it anyways, even though it serves no real purpose other than to annoy me.
The fact that they've updated them both at the same time doesn't mean that every GE trade is now linked to every death in RS.
They are two, distinguishable entities.
~A~
They have gone on the record to say that the taxes are because of death costs. Its literally their solution to lowering death costs.
Indeed, Jagex have released GE taxes because by lowering death costs meant less money was flowing out of the game.
This doesn't mean they are intrinsically linked going forward. They were simply released at the same time as it would have been too damaging to the game to release them at separate times.

Name one other thing the unfair tax levied by Jagex pays for.
It's not like real world taxes. It doesn't pay for anything.
It simply removes GP from the game.
Can you please explain to me how this 2% convenience fee outweighs the natural variation in prices, to the point that you lose more money now than you would have before? I'm sure this will only affect you if you only sold your items when they were at a peak on the GE graph. If this is the case, then I'm sorry for your loss.
If it's not the case, then you need to investigate other updates further, as they are far more impactful to skilling item prices than this tax ever will be.
It certainly has made the scammers/merchandisers in w2 GE very happy.
I just got an Aurora dye. Three days ago, it cost me nothing to sell it. Now Jagex wants to steal 12m from me if I sell it on the GE.
You obviously didn't read the article about death costs/raptors. It specifically states that the reason for the tax is to offset lowering the death costs.
Granted, it's hidden three pages in and you have to look real close to find it, but it's there.

Then simply add 12m onto your sell price.
Alternatively, go to W2 and sell it to someone in person. There's no tax between player-player trades.

The GE tax and death cost change have been released at the same time because by releasing one at a time, there is a serious risk of destabilising the economy.
They had to release both at the same time to keep the economy fairly stable.
But they are intrinsically completely separate. Tell me, if someone dies, does that affect how much tax you will pay on your next transaction?

The ge tax pays for nothing.
Youve confused things entirely and we have tried to explain that lmao
I will say jagex fault that they called it a tax therefore people think the tax will pay for something. It doesnt work like that in rs. It doesnt pay for anything. Thats jagex fault for calling that. And confusing a few people
And in still curious about this.
