I recently played through Succession and I have to say I did not enjoy it from very early on.
Starting the quest you are given the setup of the upcoming Basilissa wanting to go on one last adventure and the player character gives no comments of how this seems like a bad idea even comically, instead quickly gives Adrasteia the go for joining you. She even mentions that there has been zamorakian activity in where you are headed, the location of which has recently been very dangerous as well. Feels like plot just has to move without real reason for it to.
Another gripe for me is how nearing the end the player character and Adrasteia create their armour right next to the zamorakians "to attract less attention". This is also followed by the party walking to the antagonist's secret weapon without any opposition, entering the site or inside of it. Inexplicably as well.
Lastly the final portion where Adrasteia is singing and the game cuts to fight scenes in between I find has some problems as well. It's quite jarring to hear beautiful singing, attempting to convey gratitude and hope to listeners, while listening to epic music playing behind it. I could not attempt to enjoy the song as this brought discord to what feelings I felt like I should have had in the moment, and how the music made me feel instead.
At the same time cutting from the singing scene to a fight scene is reminiscent of other media where the beautiful music, filling you with hope, is playing on top of the fight scene watching a new evil rise, raising a feeling of dread, gives great contrast and has been a good bit of storytelling. However here you hear two different pieces of music each fitting their own situations, leaving me disappointed compared to the above experience.
Overall I haven't felt as disappointed by a quest in a long time. Generally I love quests in RuneScape but this one failed in many ways I find. What the ending will mean in the future though, I will be interested in.
