I just checked the post I made about this back in January. I was in the lobby and tried entering the game when I got the first error of too many logins.

Then on restarting the client I was locked out and required the launcher. That is not related to the accounts beta thing.

Correct, "Too many login attempts" is a different error, though the change in the login flow that the Launcher provides works around that issue allowing the player to log in - as mentioned on Jagex's Support Article on that.

Jagex recently changed the text that appears for certain client errors to suggest the launcher (including that one). This change in text is also present when an incorrect username/password is entered - though that one is likely because Jagex accounts require the launcher and cannot be used to log into the client standalone.

If they gonna force this laucher joke, im just gonna make a Jagex account per character

The only thing that will come from that is a more annoying user experience for you - a single Jagex account is meant to hold all of your characters and be more secure than what is currently provided for RuneScape characters.

Jagex Accounts is a separate thing from the launcher (though will require the launcher to play, and will eventually become mandatory for all players but that will be some time in the future).

If you do have feedback on the Launcher, Jagex does want it - you can provide it here so that they can continue to improve the experience for all during the beta phases:

I don't want to use it because it broke RS on my main computer. I can't lobby without restarting the client and cant hop which makes visiting citadel impossible. I submitted a ticket to Jagex and just got a "we are aware of the problem, but don't have a solution...blah blah...ticket closed". I'm afraid to install that launcher on this computer for fear it will forever lock me out of the citadel.

It can't hurt to try it, its possible the issues you had in the past were temporary issues that have been fixed. And if the use of the launcher is causing issues while playing the game, Jagex does want to know that so that they can resolve those issues.

The Jagex Launcher uses the existing client you already have installed, it just provides a different way to authenticate to it. If you find that you're having trouble with it, you can always launch it standalone as you've been doing and try that way. This will always be an option up until the point of migrating to a Jagex Account.

I tested this laucher and its a joke, if you add all your accounts to one PASSWORD your stupid as &#^$ .

If someone quesses your Jagex password you lose all your accounts.

Also the Laucher didnot ask me for authenticator to login like WTF who thinks of this.

So sad they are gonna force this Launcher crap in the future.

Lets em do this in November like a month before people need to decide to Pay for a year or get into another Game.

Laucher bad

Not quite - Jagex accounts have mandatory MFA - you're going to need more than just a password to log in. In order to log into a Jagex account, you need to either enter a verification code sent to your email, an authenticator code from an authenticator app, or a backup code (provided when setting up the authenticator). Which options are available for use depends on what you set up and enable/disable (you can disable email codes if you have authenticator enabled, for example).

The launcher asks for your info at initial login (including authenticator), then remembers it as long as you open it regularly. If you're using a shared PC or would prefer to enter your info at each login, you can always log out of the launcher when you're done playing.

Players have complained about insufficient security and flaws with RuneScape accounts for years, this new system provides much more in terms of security than the older system could ever provide and eliminates many known weaknesses of the old system. Yes, its different, and does take some time to get used to, but once you've gotten over the adoption phase it is quite a nice improvement over what we had.

A couple of days ago I logged in with the Jagex launcher (since I didn't have a choice), and no I hadn't migrated to Jagex Accounts, everything worked again... I have no idea what changed but all the issues I had been having over the last 3 months vanished. I no longer had to launch the client 5 times to get it to load, I could lobby and I could hop worlds. Maybe there was some bug that got patched, but all is good now.

I did try to sign up for the Jagex accounts on one account to see how it worked, but I never get the email to verify the email address, so I guess I'll just keep going with what is working for now.
