Take expensive item. Put something on expensive item, use expensive item till thing is leveld up, destroy expensive item and lose all money you spent on expensive item.

Or....hear me out, use equipment siphons on your expensive augmented gear items.

I've been training invention with staff of sliske (300+m) and ascension crossbows (100m each). Haven't had to disassemble either to get over a half million xp from them.
