Sometimes you need to comment on a post to support it's writer or genuinely discuss it, and the code on the site forcing this above presumably more important issues is very concerning.

I believe this really needs to be looked at, I can help with more information if needed.

If you don't move up a thread when its posted on, nobody will ever see your post, however interesting your discussion.

That's why threads with new posts are pushed to the top.

In my opinion, the current system is better than the likes of Reddit. How anyone can follow a conversation on there is beyond me.

Moving a thread to the top of the discussion pile means it's easier to find the actively discussed threads. If you wish to resurrect an older discussion, people will only know about it if it gets moved to the top.

Yes, there should be more in the way of forum notifications, but we've been told there will be changes coming to the forums alongside the website changes. I can only assume they'll be coming along once the Jagex Accounts rollout has been completed, and that updates like this, as well as many others that have been popularly suggested, will be included in those changes.

+1 agreed

I think the system here is fine the way it’s been for years.

This is describing how forum systems work in general. When a new reply is made, they go to the front of the list.

Because sub-forums can have more than 1 thread on a page at a time, there's no issue with recent and current discussions being on the same page as new topics.

If a thread is gravebumped and the thread is no longer relevant, it can easily be padlocked. It'll eventually fall down the list and all the current topics will rise back up. Authors can also use the bump button on their thread if needed as well. Important topics will gain traction on their own....especially if the title and posts are worded well.

Everything is currently working as forums are designed to do, so I really don't see the need for much to change on that part.
Can I turn in a paper without citing all sources?
