Hello to all Forum Moderators, I'm speaking particularly to Applejuiceaj since they seem to be pretty active and are "in" on the topic.

I have seen that a certain tracking website's verification threads are being shut down, as they should, and I want to make sure I'm within the forum rules for my next request.

I maintain a OSRS tracking website, it is 100% ad free, and 100% Open Source, it doesn't, and never will have any association with a RWT service or anything against the Runescape rules. I am not sure if I'm allowed to say the name of it as it could be considered advertising.

I am in the process of implementing a new feature on this website, where a country's flag is shown next to the player username, and filters based on this flag. This is essentially a way for players to compare their progress with other people in their country. (hopefully this isn't considered personal information, as per the forums Code of Conduct)

Since there is currently no other way to verify a player's ownership of a Runescape account, I would ask if I'm allowed to create A SINGLE THREAD, where as players could simply comment their flag ("UK" "USA" "FR&quot ;) etc, to register themselves as a member of that country.

I would then periodically check this thread to update people's flag preferences on my website.

I have read the Code of Conduct and it doesn't seem be any rules against this, but I thought it would be polite to ask for permission, especially due to that other website's unfortunate situation possibly having left a bad impression on all the moderating team.

Thanks.

A few of my peers have pointed me to this thread (thank you!) and as such, I've arrived.

Realistically though, this isn't a request that I (or any FMod) can provide a definitive answer on. Rather, that would be best coming from a member of the Community Management team at Jagex.

With that said, while I can't (and won't) speak on their behalf, 'verification' style threads have not been hosted without trouble of their own (which is independent of the reason for the last verification thread's closure). The biggest issue seen was the spam that they created - even if the site posted step-by-step instructions on how and where to post the requested validation code, many chose to ignore those instructions entirely. Rather, we would commonly find codes posted as the own threads or find posts with just a code in them on some random thread in the forums too - codes in either of those locations were spammy, and many in the community were not content with the mess they often caused.

There is also the can of worms that would be opened if one 'group' is allowed their own verification thread, suddenly many other groups will want their own as well, and we will end up with many 'verification only' threads taking over a forum section where discussion about the game really should be.

As mentioned above, any decision on this really is best coming from Jagex. This thread has been moved to the Website & Forums forum, since that forum would be a more appropriate place for this discussion to be held.
