A 'up' button and a 'down' button for displaying collective player interest, also the up/down button for comments within the 'game content suggestions' forum section OR for other forum sections too.

There might have to be a system in place where someone can only click up once or down once, or switch between them if you change your mind.

This has been suggested many times before.

The problem is that such a system is open to abuse, by player cliques or simply by someone who has a lot of alts up/down-voting posts.

This isn't Redditt, we don't need a system like this with all its inherent problems.

I think you're looking for Reddit if you want a platform for game discussion with voting:

https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/ for OSRS
https://old.reddit.com/r/runescape/ for both games

Otherwise, you'd just turn RSOF into a worse version of Reddit. :P

The Reddit system doesn't work, hence why only Reddit uses it and so is one of the worst corners of the internet.

The main issue I see is that people can influence what happens with their posts pretty easily, creating damaging echo chambers and a false sense of what the community wants. It will also push away minor topics whereby on the face of them they don't seem important, but essentially they could be far more influential than the "most voted" topics.

I have been to many forums so far, and Runescape is among the few places that has no such feature.

I'm not in favor of up/downvotes for regular posts. It creates a toxic environment, as we know, people will hold grudges against eachother, and will go to any extent to cause chaotic scenes.

A poll system for appropriate boards would be great.
"In favor" and "Not in favor" would not do much harm I think, but will obviously still be misused by a "group" of people.

Then on the other hand, I love the way that, having no such system, encourages communication between forumers. Adding this system would potentially decrease the quality of the forum, so I'd like to hear what other forumers has to say on this.

We had such a system many moons ago. However it never left the testing stage. It was a horrible system back then and wouldn't be any better now in my opinion. It was the predecessor to the highlight system that everyone got. It too didn't go down well and was eventually scrapped.

I appreciate the insight Tranq.

In the end it would discourage posting to a certain extent anyway, so I'm fine without ;)
