Forum Avatar - How to change your forum avatar

If you are a member, you can change your forum avatar by using the photo booth in game.

All that is seen on the forums is your head image. If you wish to see your full image, go to RuneMetrics by clicking on Character when in the profile view.

The booth is located outside of Falador, to the west. It is near the Makeover Mage's house.

Please note:
*You can take a photo once every 2 hours.
*You can't take a picture wearing/wielding borrowed items.
*The gaze effects will not show on a forum avatar.
*If you experience an avatar glitch, retake your picture within an hour after a system update occurs in game.
*Use an ability that triggers the battle pose (like freedom) and quickly take your picture; your full-body picture in your adventurer's log appears in the battle pose.

HEADGEAR BUG CURRENTLY UNFIXED

Headgear open-face:

Some examples: helmets, wizard-type hats, hoods, wigs, tiaras, coronets or accessories such as the nose peg or fake beak.

Headgear hidden-face:

Some examples: full helmets and masks.

Special Effects:

*Wearing double eyepatches creates dark glasses.
*Dungeoneering-specific items, when equipped, can be photographed after building a photo booth by replacing the portal at the base.
*Some helmets can be enchanted by Pikkupstix in Taverley. After summoning scrolls are stored in the helm, the helm's colour changes slightly.

If you are using a title in game, it will grace the space above or below your avatar.

Titles are currently disabled on forums.

[Information about the titles has been removed until titles return to the forums.]

Below

Some information regarding membership status appears below your avatar. The month and date of when you first bought membership, unless there was a significant gap in membership.

For example, Player A purchases membership in August 2014; it would initially say Aug [member icon] 2014. After their membership runs out, they let it lapse 15-30 days and then subscribes again in Oct 2014. The date would change to Oct [member icon] 2014.

If you have an active subscription, you'll see a membership icon directly below your forum avatar. If you're a regular RuneScape member, this icon will appear

red

in colour. Until 2019, the icon was a different color if you had purchased a Gold Premier Package; however, this has been discontinued in the 2020 Premier package.

Also, below one's name, there are links to Posts by User , Forum Profile , and Runemetrics .

RuneMetrics is an in-game and website based analytics tool that could help you be the most efficient frog of all time when it comes to leveling and completing tasks.

Forum Avatar - Below the Avatar, Part 2

Below one's name, players can now see how many posts a person has made. Additionally, coloured badges mark milestones for number of posts. To see a player's badge, you need to hover over their name.

1 - Bronze

50 - Iron

200 - Silver

500 - Steel

750 - Gold

1,000 - Mithril

2,500 - Adamant

5,000 - Rune

10,000 - Opal

25,000 - Sapphire

50,000 - Emerald

100,000 - Ruby

250,000** - Diamond

500,000** - Dragonstone

1,000,000** - Onyx

2,500,000** – Hydrix

Use of colours can work for you or against you.
There are other forum fashion accessories and considerations that help or harm your message.

How to Hook 'Em - making the title work for you

Want your title to catch their attention? ASCII symbols, colours and other formatting can help with that, as seen in the example below:

The

cyan

used above vividly reinforces an aspect of what it means to chill. Unfortunately, ASCII symbols, colours and other formatting can quickly use up your available characters, so it's best to find a way to use them sparingly with maximum visual impact. The symbols can be used in your actual title as well.

Paragraphs versus 'The Wall'

If you have some spacing between your thoughts (paragraphs in some cases), it makes reading easier. Having a wall of text doesn't make it easier. In fact, like the real life Wall of China, which was built to make people go away, a wall of text does the same.

ALL CAPS and other formatting accessories

ALL CAPS messages seem bold and loud; thus, they are often seen as shouting to the readers.

Speak softly and carry a big (

Contemplating Quotes

You can find the quote button at the lower right.
Quotes help a reader follow the conversation trail.
It is best to avoid quoting lengthy quotes in their entirety. Also, please avoid making a long chain of quote as it is considered spam.

ASCII art is only allowed in designated threads. At the moment, Bored? Draw #ere! is the only available thread.

Signatures on the forums

The RS forums now have an automatic signature box option which you can customise. It is located in your forums profile. To go to your profile, you can click on My Profile , which appears in the upper right corner or click on your name to the left of your post.

There is a 300 character limit to your signature. You can use all of the formatting options that are available for posting. Any content you place in your signature needs to be within the rules of the forum.

Recently, with the advent of various broadcast and social platforms such as Twitch, Discord, and Twitter, your signature is a handy place to provide that type of information, if you like.


You can also manually create a signature. Please be sure that you keep a manual signature to less than approximately an inch so that it does not overwhelm any content posted.

Formatting on the forums

When you make a post, you have 12 formatting options listed in the upper right:

Bold
Italic
Underline
Strike
Alignment

Colour

The alignment option was added July 2015.

Colour-quette

Use of colour in your messages can work for you or against you. Like signatures, colour shouldn't detract from the actual content of your post.

Some colours seem to provide too much of a harsh, glaring contrast. Other colours are hard to see if they don't provide enough of a contrast.

If a colour is hard to see, highlighting the webpage may help.

Also, combining colour with the other formatting of bold, italics, or underlining may help.

Emoticons aka the Smileys

Emoticons are one of the 11 formatting options listed in the upper right.

Others can be made by hand and more individualistic: ^.~

Emoticons can help to convey tone in a text-based only medium as well as change the meaning of a sentence. Emoticons can also be used emphasize a point, highlight irony, or lighten the mood. Please keep that in mind when you use them.

Mod Lyon's Step-by-step guide:

Step 1) Find an image you'd like to use on imgur (http://imgur.com/topic/Staff_Picks/bZ86bSx.gif)
Step 2) Right-click the image and select "Open image in new tab" ( http://i.imgur.com/bZ86bSx.gif)
Step 3) Edit the URL to be the image code and file extension (bZ86bSx.gif)
Step 4) Come to the forums and hit the Imgur button (little picture)
Step 5) Enter the image code and file extension

Step 6) Enter some text into your post (this is a requirement with all BBCode)
Step 7) Submit your post
Step 8) Enjoy!
