Hi,

I was unable to find the Rant subforum whilst not logged in - once I logged in it appeared. I felt I'd give a heads up just in case it's an overlooked setting. :)

Hey, Corder.

It isn't an overlooked setting. Rants and Off-Topic are not visible to the public. You must be logged in first in order for you to be able to see them. There was an era when a lot of controversial topics and spam were created so Rants was removed, created as a sticky-only sub-forum and returned again as a result of those actions. This didn't stop the rule-breaking and the chaos so Jagex said that it'd be removed within three days notice on June 16th, 2011.

Lots of players gathered together and protested in-game. After all the mayhem, Jagex decided to bring back Rants as a "hidden" sub-forum on November 3rd, 2011. It has been like this since then.

As Ana said it isn't an oversight, it's intentional.

After all you walk into any establishment and they don't have negative criticisms right there for you to view on the wall in full display of the public. This has far more to do with web browsers caches though. Public boards can be cached by google so that they appear in search engines if you're looking for a particular subject matter. Private forums do not, thus both rants & off-topic tell google to keep their grubby paws off.

Look at it this way it saves you the hassle of logging in if you wish to partake in the conversation, as you need to be logged in to post anyways.

Hi,

Thank you very much for clarifying. I was not aware of the precautions in place for this.
