As to add to my scammers post… the scammer I mentioned had a thread to hook others as well, named a competition, which a moderator approved. That contest was a scam, the same one by the same person I have encountered multiple times in game and have reported multiple times. Why was it not thoroughly inspected and why is no one doing anything. This scammer is ruining things for people and for those who don’t know any better are not safe and could fall victim to this scam. Please do something. I don’t know why we cannot give the user name of the scammer because…well…I just do not understand at all. I only gave the user name out so that people knew who to look out for. I’m rather angry and sad by the disrespect when all I am doing is looking out for others as well as the good of the game.

The moderator approval post you saw was not on these forums. You saw it on a fake copy of the RS forums. People see the fake mod approval and think the fake forums are legit and try to login at which time their login info is captured and an account hijacker uses the login info to loot the account. If you want to send additional info about a player that isn't included by an in-game report you can send an email to [email protected] You're not being disrespected. The moderator here is just enforcing the forum rules.

I appreciate that you want to help out the community, but naming and shaming of other players isn't allowed on the forums.
This is a forum rule, so I had no choice but to enforce it. Further, the entire purpose of the thread involved breaking this rule repeatedly, which is why it couldn't stay. Again, as said there, I appreciate you looking out for the community; it's just that this isn't quite the way to do it. All that said, I apologize for making you feel that way. It sucks, and I feel terrible about it, but as a moderator scouring the forums, it's my job to enforce the Code of Conduct.

As Pinguicula said above, you can also send an email to
[email protected]
, which is a do-not-reply email that allows players to escalate issues to Jagex directly. Rest assured, though, that they already most definitely have eyes on it if you've reported it before as you said.

Note: also moved this over to W&F, since this is partly about both forum moderation and forum-based issues.

What if I posted YOUR user name on the forums and claimed you were a scammer?

Firstly, I cannot prove it here.
Secondly, the fundamental principle of a presumption of innocence is lost.
Thirdly, if it's not true, then it's libellous, unfair and might cause you to lose friends or be harrassed in game.

The trouble is, if naming & shaming was allowed, it would be abused by people for completely unrelated reasons, e.g. personal dislike, clan arguments and so on. All they have to do is accuse someone of being a cheater/scammer/gold farmer etc. and they spoil that person's gaming experience.

And lastly... forum moderators are regular players, not Jagex staff. They have no way to investigate accounts or check up on people who it's claimed are scamming/cheating.

So that's why it's not allowed.
