I have a friend who has played RS since around 2005. My friend has regularly been hacked (which I personally find sus because I've played since 2003 and I've never been hacked). But, OK, let's assume that my friend is just A-level terrible with keeping his account secure and also does not have the requisite information for generating a password change when/if hacked.

Why can't JaGex retrieve his friends list, pull his oldest, active friends, and verify details? I literally have screenshots from TS, RuneScape, and TP forums from 2006-2007 with this guy's name on it. We have spent countless hours talking, but he gets hacked and there's nothing I can do to help? That seems unfair.

The hacker is now taunting his friends with name changes such as 'Not [RSN]' or 'X [RSN]'... doesn't it seem a little odd to JaGex that this accounts actual login name is who he's claiming he isn't ?

Hey there,

Unfortunately, I can't see something like this being a viable option. Jagex can easily spot hijacking, but the difficulty in hijacking scenarios is that Jagex requires the real and true, original account holder to sufficiently prove that's who they are in the recovery process before they get involved with handing the keys over to an account. Fellow players - even if the person is your best friend or your room mate - do not have access to the data that Jagex does to be able to reliably and accurately validate who is who. For instance, screenshots can be faked or manipulated or a group of "phony" friends of the hijacker could help the hijacker if this type of review was possible.

What your friend needs to do is start by securing their device , then work to secure their account . If their account is currently in the hands of a hijacker, they will need to recover the account .

See the help and advice Spearmint30 has posted and hope it works for your friend.

If your Friend needs more help or advice then try and get them to post in the Account Help section or you post on their behalf.

Also just to help out if your friend is getting taunted in game please get them to report it for " Disruptive Behaviour " as this could help them get the account back quicker.

Good luck.
