I just found out it'd cost like $500 even with my insurance to get an MRI in America, and blah blah blah...

So... anybody testify about medical tourism like going to Turkey or Guam or something to get a cheaper MRI?

Cause I'm thinking that if the whole thing is $1500, and I have to pay $500 and get treated bad by suburban mouth breathers... I could probably go to some beach front hotel and get the red carpet for two days from some turks for just the $500 total.

edit/add: non-emergency. can totally wait.

edit/add 2: thats not because of currency conversions, but because libertarian douchebags shill for plutocracy and leave quack shacks unregulated and able to charge as much as 1,100% of whats fair to rob insurance companies.

I don't think there's really much option, $500 is not even enough for a return flight in the locations that i can think of that might actually be reputable.

Move to australia and become an australian citizen. We have free healthcare so whenever i get an mri through the public health system it costs me $0. Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast.

i was told if i get severely injured shot or need major surgery i should buy a ticket and go back to aus for it

If you are an australian citizen living/ visiting overseas yes that would be the case. Cause if you have travel insurance you have to pay to claim it. And if you are silly enough not to get it well the bill will usually be in the tens of thousands Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast.

went to bali and when was there my friend got a tattoo for $30
normally its $150/h in aus

The only way I see this as being reasonable (IE not needing to spend 10x as much as the MRI for plane tickets) is if you lived close to the border of one of these places. Also if you think MRI is bad, my sister needed a few stitches on her face and it cost $6000 because they called the plastic surgeon to do it (to avoid scarring). Like okay I get plastic surgeon is probably more expensive per hour but 15 minutes of his time to put 8 stitches in cost $6000????
