Jagex made £28M profit in 2016, compared to £20M in 2015.

RuneScape, but also Old School RuneScape, were praised several times.

Interesting are pages 5 & 26, which i will put down at the end of this post.

Page 5 shows how the subscriber count increased from 1.945M (2015) to 2.082M (2016).

Page 26 shows the revenue via subscribers/micro transactions. Both rose.

28m profit?
And still people believe Jagex when they say they need microtransactions to keep afloat.

well out of their £74M revenue they made £27M out of it thanks to MTX.

So if MTX ceased to exist that profit would only be £1M

1M is enough to stay afloat, but it comes down to investors wanting to milk the company rather than improve the quality of their product.
Let's not forget how many players were pushed away by microtransactions. We could easily have many more players today if Jagex had kept their integrity.

If a business is making only 1m profit a year, the investors would pull out and put their money elsewhere. You don't want to barely break even at a corporation.

Would be interested to see if they could make up the profit from Microtransactions with a significant increase in membership costs.

I'd be willing to pay more but not sure everybody would. Jagex really need to put more effort into marketing, I very rarely see a Runescape advert and when I do its not very appealing to an audience that hasn't ever played the game. I remember reading on RS mobile discussion someone gave the idea to put RS as a F2P game on Steam so it reaches a wider gaming audience and Jagex said they had no plans to do that.

Hopefully the player base starts to increase even more soon, I have good hopes for RS mobile bringing more players into the game but I don't see the harm in them putting more money into social media marketing and google ads + adding the game to steam so it reaches a HUGE potential audience.

I agree, but it's simply too late. We can't magically get back the 100k+ average players who left due to either MTX or EoC, they're happy on OSRS. Nothing to do but plan for the future. I still think MTX could be reduced though.
