We all have that one thing in game that we can't help but chase. Sometimes we work against very low odds, very high cost, high difficulty, or even a combination.
Mine, for the past 5 years, has been the Ancient Gorilla Greegree. The day I learned you could get the Monkey Skull from Zombie Implings, I've been searching, catching every zombie I've seen and occasionally buying them in bulk. That 1/3k chance compounded with the price tag of 33k per attempt certainly stung after each failure and was just enough to make me feel bad, but not enough to stop me from trying again later.
Well, about 56m later, as of last night, I now own the Ancient Gorilla Greegree. Time for me to find a new whale.
What's your white whale?
What obscure thing have you been chancing? An item? An achievement? A personal goal?
Let me know what it is and how much you've invested into it so far. Don't be embarrassed. I spent 56m to be a gorilla with a blue face in only 2 small locations in the entire game.
Now with added
As opposed to Ahab being unable to kill his white whale, I just love to pick ones and though incredibly slow, complete them. I love the journey and it is one of the main reasons I play nowadays.
Some of my old white whales were completing the Menaphos collections (mainly the insect one), completing 200 cityquests, getting Vinny from the weekly D&D, getting Effy.
Two of my current white whales are completing all champion scrolls (for which I made a huge leap the last weeks with only 1 drop remaining) and getting all Misc. dungeoneering journals (only journal 17 remaining).
The achievement system is a great way to pick white whales for me, though a requirement for me is that the content needs to be fun (the journey is more important than the destination). As such it is extremely unlikely I will make the castlewars achievement a white whale.

HMM, I don't know, really. Nothing as of yet is 'unattainable' barring a Solak kill, so maybe comp ... but I don't really consider comp to be true comp anymore with the addition of Reaper title so it's not something I'm interested in anymore, so ... hmm ...
oh I suppose the Salty title, that one's been on my list for a while but I don't really see myself completing it any time soon (even though I'm about 90% of the way there) just because I don't play RS3 much anymore and when I am, I'm knocking out MQC reqs
I think the addition of the MTX weapons/armors ruined that title though, since people who used SoF to get them essentially cheated their way out of having to collect hundreds of thousands of chimes and hundreds of taijitu :\

Fark nicely done on getting that greegree! Hmm a few years ago 200 crafting was a pretty big and nice goal to achieve. A current goal is 99 fm on am ultimate ironman.. as for mainscape sorta struggling for something I wanna do so not really been playing it lol
I recently got my first 120 and was ever so pleased. So now I think my Moby Dick will be my first 200. Not in the already-120 skill though. I haven't decided which one yet - it won't be a combat one because I'm totally lame at combat.
For me, it's the Zily pet, Commander Miniana. For 2 years I've been trying, as I did with the KBD pet which took 2 years as well. My Zily kc is higher now w/o pet than my kc at KBD was when I got that pet. Congrats on the greegree, I've been trying to get that myself.
