A few posts I want to make actually(sorry if they're off topic).. Firstly... England.
Englands problem atm is management. Yeah the players could be playing better, but acting rash has caused a lot of issues imo.
Cook, Trott, Prior all lost form at the wrong time. Which just happened to all be right before an ashes. They lost form, panicked, assumed they weren't good enough anymore, dropped the coach, changed half the personel... And why?
Doesn't take a genius to see how much Cook is overthinking everything. The whole England management are overthinking everything...... For the last god knows how long, Englands tactic has been slow an steady. Bat and bowl with patience, play safe cricket, secure the draw before going for the win. AND IT WORKED. The reason England lost that ashes was because 3 of their best players lost form at the wrong time, not because australia played amazing attacking cricket.. So why the need to suddenly uproot an change everything?
England made reactive changes to their team.. They dropped Prior for a while, moved Root up to opener, dropped the coach, brought in every young talent they had in domestic... And what did that achieve? Stress Cook out to the point he's about to claim insanity?
Form is temporary, class is permanant. England needed to stick with their proven class players and work with them to help them regain the form which made England a genuine threat. Slowely ease in the young batsman into a winning enviroment.
Panicking and running around screaming wildly probably wasn't the best way to go about it...
Look at SA, they had a similar problem when Kallis just left. A few key players lost form and they lost a very important series. But they DIDNT panic, they backed the players they had chosen and they have (hopefully) found that form again.
