tbh the more i've seen the support team work the more i've been impressed by it. They're able to speed up the responses for any kind of issue, and a lot of the times if someone needs to e-mail a specific person in crunch time it may be hard to find out who you should be contacting them. by just tweeting them they're able to point in the right direction asap and you're able to get the correct help quicker.
the issue with big companys such as jagex is contacting the correct person right away, by having a small team ready to help you out it reduces a lot of wasted time and technically increases customer satisfaction.
although i agree the ticket system should still be in use etc, but i remember the days when jagex would straight up ignore you or take weeks to get back to you.
The Support Centre is manned 24/7 but I don't think their Twitter is.
If you lose your e-mail you lose control of your account. If you have control of your e-mail you can even pull a hijacker out of game and lock the account. People don't take the e-mail part of this seriously until something happens.
Get a GMail account with 2-step on it. Don't use it for anything else. Don't forget the bank PIN either.
