I have a hobby of making little "Top 3" YouTube videos and my last video was about murders that were caused by online gaming. I've been playing RuneScape for 11 years, and until my research conducted for the video, I've never heard of players dying because of their misfortune in game.
Does the username Maarten ring a bell for anyone? You're more than welcome to watch the video here:
I haven't heard of a Runescape-related death (though I have heard rumours about a WoW related one). However, I do recall Runescape making it to the national news (Netherlands) one time, because some 12 year old threatened to beat up one of his classmates if he didn't give him his rares on RS.
Not quite a death, but it's something, I suppose.

Never heard about this; but I like the clickbait title. It was a contributing factor, yes, but the game didn't kill someone. There are numerous cases of Asian internet café gamers playing for so long that they've died due to dehydration or similar, I'd consider that more the game killing someone, but hey-ho.
Suicide's tricky, and it definitely doesn't come down to just one factor, believe me.

I once heard that some dude bashed his head off his monitor until he died because he lost a party hat. This was in like 2005 though so 95% of the player base was probably 10-13 at the time so who knows what rumors were real lol.

Ah yes, I have heard of this case, and I am from America.
The ruling from that case regarding virtual items is quite interesting and sets new precedents.
