headphone microphone help pls!

so basically, i have a usb headset which works fine but it's pretty big and i look like a dickhead if i wear it.

i have 2 pairs of headphones/earphones with inbuilt microphones, the microphones work fine when plugged into my phone, but no matter which jack i plug them into on my laptop i cannot use the microphone function on them

the computer detects them fine but they simply won't work as a microphone some1 halp i'll be soo grateful xoxo

Aswell as in w/e program u use to chat, should be under options -> capture
it is default communications device it just literally won't pick up any soundd, even thought when i plug it into phone it works fine as a mic.

none work :( i don't care about using the headphones for sound output too i just want a decent mic which isn't on a beefy headset
