Siphoning 540k xp items is 1/48 or so. 1% of the players will need to do at least 219 siphons (318m xp). If there are 8320 players with 200m invention, then it's not too hard to believe a few tens will need 300m+ xp for the pet. Statistically, one will need over 430m xp for the pet. To be honest, I've gotten most of my pets when I've paid the least attention to them. In other words, trying to get one is probably the worst thing you can do. Just train normally, forget about and suddenly find yourself with a little surprise.

Skilling pets suck man, took me till 110m xp past 200m FM to get bernie, and I had to do like 100m dg xp of mediums to get dg pet. Little shits at level 1 invention get theirs that have no care for them. I really think drop rates should be reworked so that they are fare less likely before 99 and far more likely at 120/200m.

The thing with skilling pets is that you get it when you least expect it. I got my Invention pet after dismantling both my weapons (Augmented Abyssal Vine Whip and Augmented Enhanced Excalibur). The pet actually dropped when I opened a Medium Prismatic Lamp I'd just won from Treasure Hunter and applied it to Invention.

Also: I've never siphoned yet for Invention.
